Fell’s Point is a close-knit business community and this has never been more evident than during the pandemic.
Fell’s Point Blood Drive – April, 2020
Brina Furman, 28, whose family owns Max’s Taphouse, organized three Red Cross Blood Drive days. Businesses chipped in donating space, tables, food, marketing skills and their time. The three dates in April filled up within hours and 205 units were collected. Equally important was the sense of community this event created by giving residents and business owners an opportunity to give back. This event was hosted by Fell’s Point Main Street, Max’s Taphouse, Su Casa, Pie In The Sky, Fells Point Surf Company, Kooper’s Tavern, Poppy & Stella’s and many volunteers.
Special thanks to Brina, the next generation of Main Street activists, for pulling this together. If you unable to donate during the first round but are still interested, please email Brina and she’ll send a message out when we have the next community blood drive confirmed.
Fell’s Point Restaurateur Provides Meals For Area Hospitals & Uniformed First Responders
Patrick Russell, a Fell’s Point restaurateur and FPMS Advisory Board Member, thought this was great time to give back to his community. When a friend asked him to deliver 50 cheeseburgers to a local hospital, Patrick decided to organize a regular meal delivery service to local hospitals. Using social media, Patrick was able to raise $10,000 in sponsors to defray expenses and he is able to keep a dozen employees on the payroll. Patrick is making good use of his Chowhound food truck during this crisis and provides free meals to any uniformed emergency responders that visit the trucks. Patrick owns Kooper’s Tavern, Slainte Irish Pub and Woody’s Cantina.
